AJ Student Prize nomination for Sam!

Congratulations are in order for our Part II Architectural Assistant Sam Huntley, in our Oxford office, who bags the Oxford Brookes Post Graduate nomination for the AJ Student Prize 2022, for is interesting narrowboat-based project.

Inspired by traditional boat-building techniques combined with current advanced timber technologies, Sam’s project proposes a strategy to address the oxford housing provision shortage by re-visiting the use of Oxford’s waterways as part of the urban body. It specifically looks at re-inventing the relationship between town and the narrowboats as a compact, inventive, and clutter-free way of living.

His Tutors said of the project:

“Sam excelled in a dogged determination to take things apart, be that urban relationships, existing constructions, use of technologies, or his own pre-conceptions. He enthusiastically put things back together into a material vision of what he believes would be a better future for Oxford and beyond.”

The AJ Student Prize celebrates the brilliant emerging talent of students graduating from undergraduate and postgraduate architecture courses across the UK.

The prize is in its fifth year, and we are delighted to have had 146 entries in total, with almost every RIBA and ARB-accredited school entering students’ work in at least one category.
