National Apprenticeships Week 2025 – Day 2 – Project Spotlight

For Day 2 of National Apprenticeship Week, we’re shining a light on the real-world projects our apprentices are working on across the UK. From retrofitting university buildings to designing new schools, they’re gaining valuable hands-on experience while making a tangible impact on live architectural schemes.

Each apprentice brings their skills and dedication to a different project, learning through practical involvement and collaboration with experienced architects. Their contributions—from concept design and visulisation to tender process, planning and on-site delivery—demonstrate the value of apprenticeships in shaping the next generation of architects.

🔹 Bethany (Oxford Brookes, Year 2) – Bringing co-working spaces to life, Bethany played a key role in delivering Spacemade in Birmingham, balancing design and project management.

🔹 Dylan (Oxford Brookes, Year 1) – is gaining crucial experience working on the Begbroke Building Fit-Out for the University of Oxford, seeing the project progress from Stage 3 to tender and contributing to a successful bid.

🔹 Barbara (BCU, Year 1) – Focused on education architecture, Barbara worked on the London and South East Colleges – Plumstead new build, refining material selections and detailing.

🔹 Katy (Nottingham, Year 3) – A key part of the team for the Sherrington Building Retrofit at the University of Oxford, gaining insight into large-scale retrofit challenges and sustainable design strategies.

🔹 Harvey (BCU, Year 1) – Worked on the Hamilton Secondary School (DfE New Build), getting involved in competition projects and seeing designs evolve through later RIBA stages.

These projects are not just learning opportunities—they showcase the real impact apprentices can have on the built environment. Stay tuned as we continue to highlight their journey this week!
