The University of Wolverhampton has been awarded the ‘Cyber University of the Year’ accolade at The National Cyber Awards 2022. These awards reward orgnaisations and individuals who are committed to cyber innovation & cyber crime reduction.
Cyber Quarter – The Midlands Centre for Cyber Security opened in Herefordshire last year. The 2,000 m², £7.25 million building provides significant resources for research and development across three cyber laboratories, advanced training facilities and additional business space for up to 16 cyber companies.
It is a joint venture between the University of Wolverhampton and Herefordshire Council and is part-funded by the Government’s Local Growth Fund, via the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The building itself incorporates a triple height central glass atrium which acts as a welcoming space used for breakout, waiting and socialising, while providing a legible space for ease of navigation to each floor. A rooflight runs along the centre of the plan and provides natural daylight for zones of social learning space. The three-storey facility houses business suites, innovation rooms, IT workshops and a ‘Cyber Range’ – a cutting edge facility that will defend against the global rise of hacking.
Cyber Quarter engages with over 100 businesses, including 60 SMEs to improve their cyber defences, and has started 30 cyber related Research and Development projects and supported a range of new products.
