Platform 21 – progress update

As we approach mid-way through demolition works on Platform 21 (102 New Street) we thought we would take a look on-site at how things are progressing.  

As much of the interior of the existing building is being removed demolition work has been a large proportion of the initial stages of this project. This included removing the existing façade on the Stephenson Street side.  

In addition to all the removing of elements we have also begun forming the lift cores with four holes punched through the slabs on each level. This will eventually become what will be the building’s main core with the four lifts servicing all floors. The motors from the original, 1960s, lifts were uncovered during demolition. 

Plasma cut holes in the existing steel beams have also been completed in order to house exposed services on the open plan floorplates.
