Topping Out Ceremony Marks Key Milestone for London South East Colleges’ Greenwich Campus

London South East Colleges has celebrated a major milestone in the redevelopment of its Greenwich Campus with a ‘topping out’ ceremony, marking significant progress on our transformational education project. The event welcomed special guests, including Tom Copley, London Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development, and the Mayor and Mayoress of Greenwich, Cllr Jit Ranabhat and Mrs. Gaumaya Gurung Ranabhat.

The project is an ambitious multi-million-pound investment in education and community facilities. Once complete, the state-of-the-art campus will provide 5,500 sq.m of flexible learning space, integrating cutting-edge digital technologies to support Future Greenwich and the Mayor’s ‘Smart City Strategy’. The redevelopment also forms part of a wider masterplan, which includes nearly 300 new homes, with 70% affordable housing, delivered in partnership with L&Q, as well as enhanced public amenities and improved public spaces.

Sustainability is a core focus, with features such as rooftop air-source heat pumps, solar PV panels, a solar green roof, and efficient ambient loop heating and cooling systems.

Speaking at the event, Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development, said:

“I was delighted to attend the topping out of London South East Colleges’ new campus building in Greenwich and see the progress being made to deliver new and improved educational facilities to the local community.

Supported by £14m funding from the Mayor of London, this impressive development will enable Londoners to access high-quality training, helping them to gain new skills and secure good jobs, and will deliver nearly 300 new, high-quality homes – 70 per cent of which are genuinely affordable. This supports our central mission to create a fairer, more prosperous London for everyone.”

Throughout the construction process, the Greenwich Campus remains operational, ensuring minimal disruption for students and staff. With sustainability, innovation, and community at its core, this development promises to positively impact education and the local area for years to come.
