University of Birmingham’s Buzz Magazine

This month’s Buzz publication produced by the University of Birmingham features three of Associated Architects’ projects for the University in a feature entitled “transforming our campus’

The feature focuses on the “University of Birmingham School”:http://www.www.associated-architects.co.uk/projects/education/schools/uts/ that opened in September that is the first 11-18 university training school in the country with a total capacity for 1,150 pupils in the purpose built facility. The School’s aim is to create a diverse learning community and will be a centre for initial and on-going teacher education and research into improving educational practice.

The “Grade II Aston Webb building”:http://www.www.associated-architects.co.uk/projects/education/universities/aston-webb-block-c/ also features, with the first students welcomed to the building in October. The renovated C block provides mixed social and learning spaces and a 250 seat lecture theatre. The refurbishment incorporates many original features into the design.

Finally the details of the new parkland area of the campus is featured that will open up the centre of the campus for teachers and students. Named “Green Heart”:http://www.www.associated-architects.co.uk/news/green-heart-at-the-university-of-birmingham/, it will provide space for performances, socialising, and working whilst opening up the views of the campus as per the original Sir Aston Webb design. Following the completion of the “new library”:http://www.www.associated-architects.co.uk/projects/education/universities/main-campus-library/, the existing library will be demolished allowing works to commence.
