York chocolate factory appointment

We are please to be appointed to the team for the development of the historic Nestlé factory on Haxby Road. The Cocoa Works building has been empty for around a decade after Nestle relocated to alternative premises.

The factory opened in 1892, but the Almond buildings were only constructed in 1910, while the cream block was built in 1936 and further extended to the north in 1938 in an art deco style. The buildings have sat empty since 2008 when they were no longer suitable for modern production.

Latimer, part of Clarion Housing Group, completed the deal to purchase the iconic Cocoa Works building and intends to convert the site into 258 apartments. Planning consent was gained from the City of York Council in June 2018.

The £77m scheme will have a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom homes, a concierge and other community facilities.

Work is due to start soon.
