School of Engineering University of Birmingham UKRINN

All systems go for School of Engineering

Approval has been granted for plans for a new School of Engineering featuring a rail innovation centre at the University of Birmingham.

Situated on the university’s main Edgbaston campus, the new 136,500sq.ft  building will comprise 26,900sq.ft dedicated to research partnerships with the rail industry as part of the UK Rail Research and Innovation Network (UKRRIN).

UKRRIN is a £92m partnership between the rail supply chain and eight universities with the project due for completion in 2020.

Birmingham City Council said:

“The scheme will enable the university to improve the quality of its teaching facilities and create new teaching space without an adverse effect on the identified material considerations.

The proposal will be a sustainable addition to the campus and enhance the ecological value of the site.”
