Celebrating Emerging Talent at University Architecture Show

Birmingham Studio Architect, Mubs Ahmed recently returned to the University of Wolverhampton — not just as an alumnus, but as a mentor, role model, and surprise award winner.

Mubs took part in the School of Architecture and the Built Environment’s annual End of Year Show, held in the university’s multi-RIBA Award-winning building designed by Associated Architects. The evening brought together students, professionals, and academics to celebrate student work and create valuable connections.

As part of the student-focussed speed recruitment session, Mubs conducted one-to-one sessions with final-year undergraduate and master’s students, offering insights on portfolios, CVs, presentation skills, and life in architectural practice.

The exhibition showcased work by 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students, master’s students, and architectural technologists, featuring an exciting mix of models, drawings, VR experiences, AR tools, and AI-driven animations.

The evening also saw a range of awards presented — including RIBA-sponsored prizes for Best Model and Best Design — but one award came as a surprise: Mubs was recognised as the first fully qualified architect to graduate from the university’s architecture course, receiving a special presentation in honour of this milestone.

Mubs is also part of the Wolverhampton School of Architecture: Global Majority Network of Role Models, supporting the next generation of architects from underrepresented backgrounds through talks, mentoring, and ongoing engagement.

We’re proud to see our team giving back to the places that helped shape their journeys.
