Lapworth Museum Grand Opening

Yesterday we attended the official opening of the Lapworth Museum of Geology at the University of Birmingham. The museum has been at the University for nearly a century and Associated Architects designed the rejuvenation of the prestigious museum.

The museum was officially opened by Sir Paul Nurse; a geneticist and Nobel Prize winner, Sir Professor David Eastwood; Vice Chancellor at the University, and Professor Alice Roberts; anatomist, anthropologist, broadcaster and Professor of Public Engagement in Science at the University of Birmingham.

Associated Architects worked with Real Studios to develop the proposal to rejuvenate the museum, which will improve the collection’s accessibility using new interpretive methods of display and providing dedicated facilities for school and community groups. The collection contains the finest geological collection in the region, consisting of around 250,000 objects some of which weren’t previously on show.
