Another Award for College Court

“College Court”:http://www.www.associated-architects.co.uk/projects/education/universities/college-hall/ has been awarded a LABC (Local Authority Building Control) award for Best Change of Use of an Existing Building or Conversion. This award adds to the collection of “three RIBA awards”:http://www.www.associated-architects.co.uk/news/3-riba-awards-for-college-court/ and an “RICS award”:http://www.www.associated-architects.co.uk/news/college-court-wins-rics-award/ for this project.

The LABC awards are judged on “Excellence” shown from a construction and technical building control point of view. They recognise not just buildings but celebrate their design and construction teams that have tussled with technical issues, difficult sites and found innovative and creative solutions.

The challenging conversion of the grade II listed halls of residence to a hotel and conference centre saw as much of the original building as possible retained, whilst still ensuring new additions are sympathetic with the existing building. The energy performance has been improved from an EPC D rating to EPC B, reducing operating costs significantly.
