James joined Associated Architects in 2002 and after a period of two years working abroad, returned in 2008, becoming a Director in 2012.
Working primarily in the commercial and higher education sectors, James has led a series of projects of all scales for clients including Bruntwood, Linkcity, Anthology, and the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Warwick, Coventry, Leeds and Birmingham City. His collaborative and easy to work with approach, reflected in his consistently high KPI scores from clients, alongside his innovative and award winning designs (RIBA and BCO) with a focus on sustainability have generated long-standing relationships with clients.
James has advised multiple clients and other architects on achieving Passivhaus and low-energy construction on both new build and refurbishment projects (including listed buildings). He has presented at Passivhaus Trust events and is actively involved with the BCO, sitting on the Midlands regional committee, and previously acting as a judge for their awards programme.
As the Director responsible for IT, he has led the implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) within the practice. He is focused on making best use of its advantages for client through this process, including using its capabilities to interrogate designs in order to refine them to ensure sustainability and Soft Landings benefits are maximised and has presented his experiences at BIM Show Live.
