Spring-time promotions

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Joe Belcher and Alex Paul to Senior Associates in recognition of their continued contribution to the work and life of the practice.

Both Alex and Joe have significant experience of working on schools, colleges, universities and residential schemes for leading institutions, whilst supporting the Directors in the day-to-day management of the practice.

Joe joined Associated Architects in 2010, and since then has worked predominantly in the education sector for many leading universities and colleges. His work at the College Court Conference Centre for University of Leicester earned three regional RIBA Awards in 2014, a RICS Award and the AJ Retrofit Award. In 2017, he completed the £42m Emily Wilding Davinson Building at Royal Holloway, University of London, a library that incorporates an innovative student services centre. Joe has developed his expertise with projects at the universities of Birmingham and Loughborough, delivering highly specialised laboratory spaces. He completed the Health Futures UTC in West Bromwich for a consortium including the University of Wolverhampton and West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust which provided a unique teaching platform for their innovative 14-18 curriculum. He has strong connections with the regional RIBA board, supporting initiatives in local schools to raise professional awareness through the RIBA Ambassadors Scheme.

Alex joined in 2011 and has worked largely in the residential and education sectors, including the University of Birmingham School, the first of its kind at any university in the UK.

Current projects include, the redevelopment of the Springfield Brewery heritage site for the School of Architecture and the Built Environment at the University of Wolverhampton, the refurbishment of the Guild of Students at the University of Birmingham, and Tyndall Street, a 24-storey residential tower in Cardiff. Alex has been part of competition wins for St. Modwen at their Longbridge Park Square site and Beauchamp Academy for Cedars Trust. He takes a leading role in the continued development of our BIM and virtual reality capabilities and undertakes Quality Assurance development within the practice’s management team.
