He has a long track record of working at a senior level in a range of design led practices across sectors including one-off houses, offices, arts and leisure, and education (pre-school to specialist secondary), but his specialism is in the field of higher education. He has managed successful framework relationships and delivered award winning projects for a wide range of universities and colleges, including Oxford, Birmingham, Warwick, Leicester, Nottingham Trent, ICL and Southampton.

At a previous practice he was Project Director for the 33,000sq.m, £90m, Newton & Arkwright regeneration scheme for Nottingham Trent University, which saw the total transformation and interconnection of two iconic grade II* listed buildings to create a vibrant new heart for the city centre campus. More recently Neil delivered the Alan Walters Building for the University of Birmingham Business School – a new centre for the postgraduate cohort, including MBA and ExecMBA students forming a bridge between academia and the wider business community. The project received both a regional RIBA award and was voted AJ Higher Education Building of the year on completion. At the same time Neil also completed the Oculus teaching and learning building for the University of Warwick – the university’s first dedicated teaching building available to all regardless of department.

Neil has been a part-time lecturer and visiting critic at Oxford Brookes, Nottingham University and the AA in London.
